Dassera – An occasion to Cross Border
I wish my readers a Happy Dassera. Dassera also is known as Vijaya Dashami is an auspicious day for Hindus. This is the day to start something new. In older days Kings used to step out of their state and start their march to concur more areas. For common people, it is a day to step out of our comfort zone and explore new opportunities. Before I explain it further, let me cite some examples.
Some Glaring examples
- Kathiresan was a 9th-grade pass. He left school and became a driver to support his family. He was appointed as a driver for Dr. Abdul Kalam, who was Director of the Indian Space Research Organization. He recognized the genius in the Driver and mentored him to study further. He sparked such a powerful spark in the Driver’s mind that Kathiresan took the advice seriously. Mr. V. Kathiresan finished his Ph.D. in the year 2002. He is now Asst. Professor.
Sachin Tendulkar was studying in Sharadashram High school at Dadar. His parents like any other parent wanted their son to excel in academic studies and get a plush job. However, Sachin’s elder brother noticed his interest and skill in Cricket. He made his parents to allow Sachin to concentrate on playing cricket. Sachin left education after school. He did not go to any University. He went ahead and became a legend in Cricket.
Do not leave your Life to Fate, Decide your Fate
These personalities luckily found mentors in their occupation and home respectively. Otherwise, they would have continued trading the beaten path. These talents would have been wasted. But everyone is not lucky to find the Mentors as Sachin and Kathiresan. I have cited the above examples to underscore the importance of Career choice. Today professional Career guidance services are available. Instead of availing of these services, people still do not make use of these services. People still feel that the cost of counseling is avoidable. They are leaving the future of their child to their fate. In that event, their children striking the right career is only a miracle. Paying a small fee can ensure a bright career for the students.
Step out of your Comfort Zone
Let me get back to where I started. I mentioned “stepping out of the comfort zone” in the beginning. Comfort zone is the beaten path. We always choose to follow the mob. Little we understand that every individual is different. Therefore choosing a career cannot be a group exercise. It has to be an independent exercise for every individual. It is necessary to step out of the path taken by the majority and find our own path. The first step as I have already mentioned in my previous blogs is to find a career destination (Job/profession). Once the destination is found, a path can be found towards it. The less-traveled path may be felt difficult in the beginning. Once we set in motion, the going becomes easy. As the destination comes in sight, the speed towards it automatically gets accelerated.
As regards, working professionals who find their jobs uninteresting should start exploring alternate careers instead of following their rut jobs.
Those who have flown kites would know how difficult is to get the kite in the air. Once it attains height, the flyer has only to control it. Similarly stepping out of your comfort zone is difficult in the beginning. However, once we set ourselves on the track, the journey becomes easy. The joy of reaching our desired destination is immense.
Step out of your comfort zone and you will be able to realize your dreams. Good luck to all.
